FAQ

Counseling can be a wonderful support if your child is struggling socially, having trouble managing their emotions, or seems unusually anxious, withdrawn, or irritable. It is also worth considering if they are dealing with a major life change or showing signs of frequent worry and negative self-talk. If you are unsure whether your child needs support, we are happy to schedule an initial consultation to discuss your concerns.

The terms counselor, therapist, and psychologist can vary depending on training background and professional regulation, which is why they may feel confusing. In Hong Kong, counselors and therapists are typically master’s‑trained professionals who provide psychotherapy and emotional support. A psychologist usually holds a doctoral degree and may offer both therapy and formal psychological assessments, such as cognitive or learning evaluations. The most important consideration is the practitioner’s qualifications, professional registration, and experience working with children and adolescents.

Confidentiality is essential to building trust. Information shared in sessions is private, with exceptions related to safety concerns or legal requirements. We clearly explain these boundaries at the start of services so both parents and students understand how communication will work.

Therapy is not one-size-fits all, so the length of therapy varies depending on your child’s goals and needs. Some concerns may be addressed in short‑term, focused work, while others benefit from longer‑term support. We regularly review progress and adjust the plan as appropriate.
